Another race done and another goal accomplished. It bit the dust! :) I ran the Brian Diemer 5k this morning. It was tough getting out of bed to run especially since today it one of the classic hot and humid Michigan summer days. Not ideal running weather. Thankfully it wasn't too hot in the mid-upper 70's and cloudy, occasional breeze.
I beat my time from the River Bank Run by more than 5 minutes and just squeaked past my goal with 11 seconds to spare!
I walked quite a bit of the middle portion of the race I just wasn't all that motivated and then the last leg of it I started to run again. Approximately 1 block from the end some people were cheering my name, it was my cousin Allison and Aunt Laurie! It was such a great motivator to have family there (unexpectedly) cheering for me! :) :) Time to kick it into high gear to get across the finish line! :)
The peoople in the crowd who are cheering or clapping are a few of my favorite parts of running a race. The best part is the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction of knowing I did something good for myself. Not to mention all the free goodies and the fire hydrant that was spraying for a post race cool down. Note to self next time don't wear a white shirt.
When's the next 5k?
Happy running people.
