Super Science Saturday

Super Science Saturday. Yes that is a mouthful but it is an actual thing. Apparently every year Grand Valley's Regional Math and Science Center host's a science fair. This year Metro was invited to participate and my department was included. When I got the notification for this about a month ago I didn't think anything of it. However then it was presented to my students as an opportunity for service learning credit (something they hsve to do) and I felt a little like I should be there.

As a result early this morning, my alarm goes off (yes on a Saturday, ugh) and off to get ready for the science fair I go. I'm driving to get to GVSU on time and I was a little late but I'm considered a volunteer so I think its alright, I found my room where our exhibit was assigned to and helped finish setting up and wait for the kiddies to come and visit. And did they ever! In the 3 hours I was there this morning I don't even want to count the number of kids who came thru. Not only did they see Sponge Bob's xray :), but also a lots of other interesting things complete with the urinary system and where your bladder is. One person's definition was the pee bank. Amusing but very fitting. :) Another phrase I heard was "I love bones." A future xray tech I'm sure of.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this whole science fair thing but I was surprsed at how much I enjoyed it. It was fun to explain the pictures the kids saw were actually parts of the human body. I did get some very good ideas for what to do next year, hopefully we'll be invited back. :)

After that some lunchy with my parents made me feel like a kid again eating around the kitchen table, nap and I went out for dinner with my friend Laura. We ate Italian for dinner, wondered around Target, concluded with dessert at Arnie's. Yum. A very relaxing evening but a ton of fun. And now after all that adventure today. I'm ready for a good nights sleep. (yawn).
Good night.
